2019 Spring Competitive Travel Program Information  

ALL MYSC 2019 Spring Tryouts scheduled for Sunday, 11 November will be held   at Gaudet Middle School turf field (Turner Road)


The Middletown Youth Soccer Club Spring Competitive Travel Soccer Program offers a place for U8-U19 players to test their skills and represent MYSC participating in the Rhode Island Youth Super Liga and other tournaments sanctioned by Soccer Rhode Island.  This program requires a higher level of commitment from players AND PARENTS than the Fall Recreational and Fall Travel Programs as the goal is to develop increased player skill levels and higher levels of competitive team play.

What is Spring Competitive Travel Soccer?
*    MYSC Spring Travel soccer teams complete in the Rhode Island Youth Super Liga, which is a statewide league comprised of teams ranging from  U8 through U20 age groups.
*    Each team will be scheduled to play either a 7 or 8 game schedule, comprised of home and away games that will be scheduled on weekends between roughly late March and early June.
*   Teams are normally not co-ed, but it is not uncommon for girls to play on a boys team for a variety of reasons, especially at the lower age groups.
*   Pre-season practices begin in January with one-hour weekend practices in the Newport Boys and Girls gymnasiums.  Once weather and field conditions permit, teams will begin practicing twice/week at the MYSC Wyatt Road complex.

Player Registration
Spring 2018 Competitive Travel Soccer registration is open.
Bring your own soccer ball to tryouts, stop by the concession stand on the way and we will pump it up for you if needed.
*   Players are required to be registered no later than 9:30 am on their designated player evaluation date or they will not be permitted to participate in their designated evaluation session.
*   Please be sure to update all contact information as this will be used to communicate team placement.
*   Players who are registered after Sunday, 12 November and/or did not attend an evaluation session for their age group will be placed on  the Wait List and will be assigned to teams if there are available roster spots.

Registration Fees
     Players are required to be registered no later than  9:30 am on their designated player evaluation date or they will not be permitted to participate in their designated evaluation session.

Normal Registration: Prior to 11 November 2018 - $130.00/player
Late Registration: 12 November - 30 November   - $150.00/player
                              After 30 November 2018          - $170.00/player
Remember to bring your own soccer ball to tryouts!!

Family Discount: If three (3) or more family members register for Spring Competitive Soccer, the third player will receive a $50.00 discount on registration fees, and the fourth player will receive a $100.00 discount.

    Refunds: Absolutely NO refunds will be given AFTER TEAM FORMATIONS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED.  However, if a player is not assigned to a team, MYSC will refund the full registration fee.

Additional Anticipated Costs
In addition to the Registration Fee, there are two additional anticipated costs that ARE NOT included with Player Registration;
*   Uniforms: The same 2018 Spring uniforms will be used again in Spring 2019.  All players without a current uniform will be required to purchase a complete set.  Depending on size, these new uniforms will cost approximately $70-$80.  MYSC normally is able to use the same uniform style for 3-4 years.  Further uniform information will be available after the teams have been formed in late December.
*   Equipment: Players are required to wear some sort of soccer cleat/athletic sneaker and shin guards.  NO FOOTBALL / BASEBALL style cleats are permitted.

Player Evaluations (Tryouts)
All 2019 Spring Competitive Travel players are required to attend one of the age-division appropriate evaluation sessions as listed below at the MYSC Wyatt Road Soccer Complex.  It is recommended that in order to most accurately assess the player's abilities and skill level to a large number of players in his/her age group, players attend the Primary tryout session rather than the Make-up session that has fewer participants.  Players are required to be registered no later than 9:30 am on their designated player evaluation date or they will not be permitted to participate in their designated evaluation session.

All registered players must bring a properly inflated ball to Tryouts.

    GIRLS AND BOYS U8 - Players born in 2011 & 2012
     Primary: Sunday, October 21 @ 12:00 pm / Make-up: Sunday, October 28 @ 9:00 am     

    GIRLS U10 - Players born in 2009 & 2010
     Primary: Saturday, October 13 @ 3:00 pm / Make-up: Sunday, October 28 @ 10:30 am

    BOYS U10 - Players born in 2009 & 2010
     Primary: Sunday, October 21 @ 2:00 pm / Make-up: Sunday, October 28 @ 10:30 am 

    GIRLS U12 - Players born in 2007 & 2008
     Primary: Saturday, October 27 @ 3:00 pm / Make-up: Sunday, October 28 @ 12:00 pm 
    A Second Girls U12 tryout has been added for Saturday November 3 @ 3:00 pm

    BOYS U12 - Players born in 2007 & 2008
     Primary: Saturday, October 20 @ 3:00 pm / Make-up: Sunday, October 28 @ 12:00 pm 
     
    GIRLS U14 - Players born in 2005 & 2006
     Primary: Sunday, October 14 @ 12:00 pm / Make-up: Sunday, October 28 @ 1:30 pm

    BOYS U14 - Players born in 2005 & 2006
     Primary: Sunday, October 14 @ 2:00 pm / Make-up: Sunday, October 28 @ 1:30 pm

    GIRLS AND BOYS U16 - Players born in 2003 & 2004
     Sunday, November 11 @ 12:00 pm (Only ONE tryout session will be offered)

    GIRLS AND BOYS U19 - Players born in 2000, 2001 & 2004
     Sunday, November 11 @ 12:00 pm (Only ONE tryout session will be offered)

Team Formation
*    Players who registered after Sunday, November 11 and/or did not attend an evaluation session for their age group will be placed on a Wait List and will only be assigned to teams if there are available roster spots.
   Team formation will be completed in late November / early December and announcements will follow afterwards using contact information entered in each player's registration.
*   Team selection will be based on individual player tryout results, the number of teams that will be formed, and by positional player requirements.  The MYSC Competitive Coordinator and Club President will have final say on team formation.  Players will be notified of team placement by e-mail using the e-mail address submitted during registration.

Play-Up Requests
Any player requesting to "play up" to an older age group must:
*   Attend an evaluation session with their age appropriate team AS WELL AS attending an evaluation session with the older age group.
*   E-mail an explanation for their request to Play-up to Mr. Walt Wildemann, MYSC President (info@middletownyouthsoccer.org).
    All requests will be reviewed, however there is no guarantee requests will be approved.
